Be a part of the upcoming Larkin Park Improvement Project by sharing your ideas with City leadership!

The City is in the beginning stages of planning improvements to Larkin Park including the playground, restrooms, park lighting, and more. The project kicked off with a community meeting on November 6, 2025. At the meeting, community members shared their ideas and vision for the park improvements.

City staff is working with a design consultant to turn the community input into a design plan for the park. On Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 6:30 pm, the community is invited to a presentation of design concepts. This will be an opportunity to give feedback on several potential designs.

Can't make a meeting, share your feedback in the guestbook.

2. Petanque Court Benches: It would be great to have a couple benches over by the petanque court. I believe there's one picnic table over there, but a few benches along the perimeter would make it a lot more inviting for groups to come play and hang out. I know you mentioned benches are expensive, but I do think one of the reasons my family has not used the petanque court often is because there is a lack of seating over there.

3. Connectivity & Landscape Design: I loved the comment by a couple others regarding natural landscaping, boulders, mounding, etc around the playground. It would be great to get some of this throughout the design - making the walkways and connections between the playground and the exercise equipment, the plaza, and even to the petanque/horsehoe/basketball court area more pleasing. Benches along these paths would also be great to give visitors more opportunities to enjoy the space. This would also help make the different areas feel more connected rather than 3 different areas connected by a sidewalk.

4. Playground Preferences: Our family loves the design and style of options #5 & #6. However, our kids all also liked the larger net configurations of the Treehouse option #7 and Net Climb option #3. Obviously funds are limited, but it would be great to see something in the style with a uniqueness and character of something like options 5 & 6 with a larger more complex net feature that older kids can also use.

5. Specific features: Regardless of the designer, the few pieces aside from a larger net/climbing feature that the kids would love are:
- the snake-like group swing that looks like it's in option 5
- the spinning net in option #6
- a zipline feature like in option 7 or 3
- faux or real rock & balancing features to climb on

1. The Plaza: We love the idea of the chess tables, and the 'plaza' in general. Creating a space with a variety of tables & benches is something we love about visiting other cities when we travel (as well as our own laemmle plaza in Claremont). I'm not personally a fan of using space or funds to install permanent cornhole.
