On October 8, 2024, the City Council awarded the Lewis Park Playground Replacement to Kompan playgrounds. Kompan has developed a fully-inclusive playground to replace the current play equipment. There will be two playground areas. One playground will be designed for children ages 2-5 years and one for children ages 5-12 years. The younger children‘s area will have a set of bucket swings, Junior Spica, play panels, and double tower with double slides. The older children’s area will feature a bird’s nest swing, Jungle Dome, and brand-new Cliff Rider. Both areas will feature special ground surface to allow children of all needs and abilities to use more of the playground equipment. The playground equipment is expected to arrive in February and will be installed soon after. Lewis Park playground will be closed during the demolition and installation.

The City is inviting the community to participate in the upcoming Lewis Park Playground renovation project. City staff and playground designers have held several community meetings to facilitate a discussion on what the neighborhood would like to see in the park’s two playground areas. Earlier this year, the City presented two playground designs to the neighborhood.

The City received an overwhelming response from the community asking for a more robust and creative input process for Lewis Park and other City Parks. The City Council directed staff to revisit the Lewis Park design and begin a community outreach process to assess the City’s overall park improvement plan.

Since the initial meeting with the community, City staff worked with additional playground designers to come up with alternate designs. At the last community meeting, the community overwhelmingly preferred a design with sustainable wood construction, accessible design features, and play equipment for both young and older children.
